Community TV

My current Community TV work is mainly on the Inline Plus program, under the direction of John Powell.  At the moment, my role involves
editing graphics onto pre-prepared segments, formatting the show for broadcast requirements and dubbing the many program master tapes required for national distribution.

I am an active member of Northern Access Television, and assist the members of the group in different volunteer roles as required.

NAT Production Logo

This is the latest version of the animated NAT Production Logo, seen at the end of several NAT Programs.

I made the animation from another NAT Member's still logo design.

In the past, I have assisted with several
Community TV Programs in various volunteer roles.

NAT Chat / Spirit of Life

A couple of years ago, my volunteer work for Northern Access TV was mainly on the NAT Chat and Spirit of Life programs.  NAT Chat is an
interview show, covering various topics of interest to the community, and allowing our members to get involved in front of, and behind the cameras.
Spirit of Life is a Christian Interview program.
Both programs are shot the same way and often on the same day.

I used to be mainly a Floor Manager and did
Directing from time to time.  With other crew available, I have moved on to other projects.

Both programs are produced for Northern Access TV by David Mclauchlan.

"Transit" Program
The Transit program was produced by me between 1996 and 1998.  The first series in 1996 was edited on SVHS Cut Suites at Optus LocalVision using footage dubbed from my Video 8 camera, and consisted of six episodes. Three of these episodes were later screened on Channel 31 through Northern Access TV.  1997 saw a one hour special produced called "Two Rare Tramway Survivors", produced with Roberto D'Andrea on the Melbourne  -  Calcutta Tramway Friendship.  This was produced using RMIT equipment through Northern
Access TV.  1998 saw a second series of ten shows
produced on various operators and Museum Groups,
paper edited by me using two VHS machines, and then edited by David McLauchlan on his non linear editing system.

the Transit website.

"Trammies"

During 2003, I edited a program called Trammies - Tracking Tramway Tradition which was a program about the Trammies exhibition at the Immigration
Museum.  This was produced with the assistance of Roberto D'Andrea.  It included archival Tramway Board footage, interviews with current and former Trammies and footage shot around the exhibition.

"Tram Connies"

In 2002, I edited and co-produced a 14 minute
compilation video called Tram Connies--The Story since 1996 with the help of Roberto D'Andrea.  This follows the Connies Performance Troupe though their various protests in support of Tram Conductors and also the various festivals they have attended handing out swap cards, etc.  This video involved editing footage shot by me of the group off and on since 1996.  The video was screened in the foyer of the Art of Dissent festival at the Arts Centre, and was screened on
Channel 31 in late 2002. This was all produced at home using the PC for editing.

NAT Promos
I have also produced a number of promos for NAT, the most recent being for our Supporter Memberships.
I have also made an animated logo for NAT.  First seen in 2001, the "Fido" version has become quite popular, and has been in use since late 2001 on a number of NAT productions by a number of the group's
producers.

Prior to 2001, I did my editing work at Channel 31's now
defunct "Member Group Building", using various equipment to edit, including U-matic and SVHS cut edit suites, and sometimes a Casablanca machine.  In late 1999 / early 2000, I got use of David McLauchlan's computer whilst he was on leave in NZ for a few weeks, which enabled me to
produce a series of promos for the group, and "CTV In Bendigo".  Now I do all my editing work from home on the home computer.

CTV In Bendigo, was a one-off special on Bendigo Community TV and their struggle to regain their
community TV licence. It was made in late 1999.  I have posted a webpage for it with RealPlayer files, so you can watch the program online.  This was first screened in the Et Cetera timeslot in 2000, and later
repeated.

Et Cetera was a program I co-produced with David McLauchlan and Rebecca Chambers.  David has produced a webpage for Et Cetera.

As it turns out, I didn't do a lot on Et Cetera.  I
edited a couple of episodes (on a U-matic Cut Suite), and did camerawork for one or two stories.  The
concept for Et Cetera was a "merger" between David's idea for an Arts show, and my idea for a Magazine show.  The end result was quite successful, despite most of the crew leaving in 1999, leaving David to produce the program "one man", from camerawork and
interviewing, right through to editing!

Fifteen Fabulous Minutes was a program I started off producing, but is now produced by Steve
Williams with his friends.  I have since made
promos for the program, and I still maintain the program's webpage.  But Steve has come a long way since he joined NAT, and is now editing his own programs and promos for both FFM and the station in general at home on a Mac computer.

The old "FFM" title - from the time I was producing it!

Other editing jobs I have done for NAT has included on-air promos for the group, based on a tagline I came up with "Your Region… Your Group".  This was a series of three promos, based on the theme of "NAT Places" (local scenes of the Northern Suburbs), "NAT People" (scenes of NAT
people at work), and "NAT Programs" (Scenes of NAT
programs).  I have also edited several promos for "Fifteen Fabulous Minutes" for it's producer, Steve Williams.  I did a series of three promos for him in early 2000, followed by
another one for his then current series in 2001.
